Music

Post by Allegro »

As you may be able to tell from my name, Allegro, I'm very much into music. Tell us what your favorite bands are here, who knows, you may make a fan out of someone!

I'll start.

I consider myself a pretty devout metalhead, but I'll listen to pretty much anything.

I'm really into a band called "Heed" right now, even though I can't find their album ANYWHERE.

Here are some of the bands I listen to, tell me if you know of any of them:

Allen Lande
Andy Mckee
Angra
Apocalyptica
Avantasia
Blind Guardian
Brother Firetribe
Disturbed
Dragonforce
Dream Evil
Dream Theater
Dreamscape
Eluveitie
Evergrey
Firewind
Heed
Kamelot
Masterplan
Nightwish
Primal Fear
Sonata Arctica
Stratovarius

So, heard of any of them?

What two were they? Oh and not a lot of people know of these bands, metal isn't relatively big here in the US.

I would list bands/groups I like, but the list would be too long. Mostly punk rock, Alternative, and rap. I dont care for the screaming bands, or slit my wrist bands except for a few. But mostly earily 80s punk.

I was 5 for 22 but not too much into metal anymore.

I do love me some Killswitch Engage, Nightwish, and Skindred tho.

Its hard to identify who I am specifically into but for the sake of conversation here are the first 5 random artists that came up on my I-Pod.

-Spoon
-Our Lady Peace
-p!nk
-Stone Temple Pilots
-LL Cool J

So ya I'm all over the place.

I was also a jazz minor in college and have an extensive collection but I don't carry them on the I-Pod.
WH- Phoenix Throne: Aonghas
WoW- Lightninghoof: Aangus

Even tho I may be a human now... I'm still just a dumb old bare.

I've heard of a couple and a few sound familiar.

I'm with you on the early 80's punk Adaar. No matter what new music I find, I always end up back with those.

Lately it's been lots of metal, the bands I am listening to a lot lately are:

Mastodon
High on Fire
Himsa
Neurosis
Doomsayer

i don't usually listen to metal as i don't consider screaming and mashing power cords music but i listen to most every type of music that isn't metal.

Uh oh, a debate begins

Screaming and mashing power chords? Who are you listening to? Metal is all over the place, the stuff I listen to is more progressive, less screaming/growling, more actual talented singing. Just take a look at Dream Theater, no screaming there, and the members of Dream Theater are considerably some of the best musicians in America.

My votes for Punk Rock. Too much dark and death gives me a headache.

Actually, not just metal fans. John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy were all Berkley students, probably doesn't help my case to say they're all drop outs but regardless. Jordan Rudess skipped all beginning classical piano and graduated from Juliard early, that is pretty impressive. Yes, it is definitely a matter of opinion though. But I definitely suggest looking them up on youtube.

Even my co-worker whom listens exclusively to rap and R&B was wide-eyed watching their instructional videos.

I like a lot of different kind of music, but lately I've been on a metal and blues rock kind of kick.

Last few bands that I've listened to A LOT lately:

The Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies.
CKY.
Rusted Root.
Poisonblack <--still trying to decide if I like them or not.
Sourmash <-- a friend of mine's old band... they are still together and play locally, he's just not in it anymore.

and these are not bands, but I'll listen to the scores any day of the week.
Les Mesirables (the musical)
Miss Saigon (the musical)
Sunset Blvd (the musical)

I was fortunate enough to live in Belgium during my early teens, and my parents used to take us to London to see plays and musicals. Good times.
WAR -- Grimoir, Black Orc (Phoenix Throne)
Riomirg, Zealot (Phoenix Throne)
