Built my new machine

Here are the components:

Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 case (nice and quiet)
Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000w
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 4gb, DDR3 1600 RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Fan
2 Wester Digital VelociRaptor 150GB, 10000RPM Drives (Raid 0)
nVidia GeForce GTX 280, 1GB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card

So far so good, although I haven't even run the game yet (it's patching). I went back to Vista 64, but hopefully I won't have the problems that I had on the old machine that made me switch back to XP.

That's a real nice rig! I would've gone with the ATI 4870 x2 instead of the nVidia though, but apart from that it's a real killer machine

ps: please hire me ... cause you must have a really well paying job :P

LOL! I do have a position open...are you a java programmer? :)

I'm not a huge ATI fan...past experiences turned me off...although I have heard those are good cards.

I am actually (amongst other programming languages) :P .. I just tend to be on the wrong continent for these things, and while I'm not shy to commute, this seems a tad overkill ;)

Yeah, seems like a lot of work. :)

Ah, you can get the 3870 for the Mac, but I don't know about the other one. They just need to make Mac's boot high resolution if it has a "mac" card and boot low resolution (until the drivers are loaded) for other cards...then gamers could pick.

I can't find the place where I read about the 4870 for mac right now, but I'm farily certain it's on it's way. 3870 isn't too shabby either. A tad faster than GeForce 8800GT.

Nice stuff man. Sounds almost identical to my new rig, just a different PS brand (Tagan) and I'm running a 3 way SLI with the 9800 Xtremes ;)
Those Raptors are sick aren't they?

Yeah, they are really fast. The whole thing ended up being a great machine. Really stable, and man that case makes it quiet. It's probably the happiest I've been with a build (and I've done a lot over the years).

I've heard that I can overclock this processor up the wazoo, but I don't really ever do that stuff.

Looks like a pretty good setup other than that foul word Intel in the mix.

Gimme an AMD over any supposedly comparable Intel any day and I would also based on past experience go with Nvidia over ATI for any gaming setup.

LOL, Leo. People who like AMD over Intel are like so late 90's. :)

Perhaps, but the last benchmarks I saw still have AMD outperforming a similar Intel CPU.

Perhaps right now, but not for long. Nehalem are just around the corner, and then AMD becomes lowfat chips again

Even right now, Intel is ahead: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html in terms of performance. It still may be that the best bang for the buck is AMD.

And you're right, Nehalem should be really interesting. It's a massive change to architecture that's supposed to be leaps beyond where we are now.

And intel has jedi's where as AMD has klingons ... now can you not be on the Intel side!

Oh, Jedi's...I knew I liked Intel for a reason!
